Random length of play
You may experience songs being switched before they are completed or short periods of silence before selections are changed. Either is possible and to understand why this happens we need to look at how the Tag-along coding works. When the Tag-along jukebox is opened, it is controlled by the javascript code running in the bottom frame of the Tag-along jukebox (where the Crescendo player appears). It starts a timer that has been set for each song and loads and plays the song. The timer starts running about the time you see "Now playing: (title)". You may notice that in most cases the MIDI file is still loading at that point. To determine the length of time to allow for playing the MIDI file, we took the actual playing time and put in a "fudge factor" of 10 seconds to allow for loading. If your file loads faster or slower than this it could create some "slight" inconvenience and minor problems in that the songs may be chopped at the end or possibly, if loaded faster, the player will sit idle for a few seconds before switching selections. As we mentioned, all the playing times for the random player were calculated and written into the code. If you happen to find a song that is consistantly long or short we might have calculated the time incorrectly. Please drop us a note if you happen to find something like that.
I thought it said "RANDOM PLAY"
So your Tag-along Jukebox plays the same song several times before playing the entire group!! Well, we did say it was random play and it is exactly that. A song has a 1 in 12, 14, 20 (or whatever) chance of being picked. After a song is played the process starts over again so, in theory a song could repeat. If this is bothersome, simply hit the Non-Stop Random Play button on the player
Can I bookmark a Tag-along?
No you cannot. The jukebox is loaded from the Tag-along menu page and needs to be started from there. You could modify the code, with considerable work, to make it load locally. If you don't know how to do that, please don't ask us! It would be almost like writing the code over again!! Remember that you can click on the title graphic (Our MIDI Jukebox) of the Tag-along and it will bring you back to the Tag-along launch page. Be sure to bookmark the site for future use.
This is Cool. Can I use it on my site?
You sure can. The code we are using, and have modified extensively, "appears" to have come from David McCoy. You should give him proper credit for his work. ( kb9qfv@geocities.com http://www.midwest.net/scribers/mccoy/ ). As for the modifications we made, we're not big on the ego thing. Our policy is that if you like what you see here and believe your visitors would like to have a link to it, then by all means please add a link to The Entry Page of this website. In case you forgot to bookmark that URL it is
Can you make us a Tag-Along Jukebox for our site?
Yes we can. While all the code is there for you to use, we understand that some folks would rather have us make them a tag-along. Since we've had many requests, we are now making custom tag-alongs for your website. We will make you a custom Tag-Along Jukebox, complete with 20 songs of your choice for $20.00. You need to supply the MIDI files (from your website) but we'll do all the graphic work and HTML coding. For more details please send us an email.
A final Comment
A couple things before you go. If you are in the random play mode and surf across a site with an embedded MIDI file, that file will attempt to play. Generally what will happen is it will play when the Tag-along takes a break to load a new song. Some folks embed hidden MIDI files and give you no control over the song (that's a No No). You could be hearing music but the Tag-along doesn't appear to be playing anything! You can defeat this by right clicking the Crescendo player logo and selecting STOP ALL. Then make the appropriate selction in the Tag-along Jukebox to re-start the music you want to hear. If you are in Random Play and want to stop the player you must remember that pushing the STOP button on the Crescendo logo won't hault the random loading of files. As we said earlier, this is done by a javascript running in the background. If you need to stop the player we suggest loading a song manually and then pressing the STOP button on the Crescendo logo. That will bypass the javascript. Make your selection from the various categories below
to play your favorite tunes in our jukebox.
