The Legal Stuff
This webring site, nor any of the member sites, are in no manner affiliated with and/or approved by West Virginia University and as such, they should be considered "unnofficial sites". The official website of West Virginia University is located at www.wvu.edu.
What we offer
If you don't have a webpage related to West Virginia University and are a surfer wondering "What am I doing here", then jump on over to the webring and take a TEST DRIVE.
If you have a webpage that contains information and links to the Mountaineers, then you'll be interested in joining this webring. No more updating links and information, it's all done for you with the webring!
First, what is a Webring?
Webmasters (people like us that have a website) have for years "traded links" with other websites to help advertise our sites. Recently the webring was developed to enlarge the scope of link trading. A webring joins together many sites with some common topic or interest for the sites in a ring fashion. This benefits the web surfer as they can visit the members of the webring for more information and it also benefits the webmaster by increasing the number of visitors to their site. For more info on Webrings, visit the WebRing Home Page.
Why should I join?
There are two basic reasons to join this webring. First, it will result in more hits for your website. If someone is surfing another member's site and activates the webring link, they will automatically surf around the webring to other member sites. WVU fans can't seem to get enough information on their Mountaineers!! This is an easy way for them to find you and to help them find other great sites on the 'net.
Second, it makes easy work of tracking the URL's of other Mountaineer sites. So easy that there isn't any work! Each member is responsible for keeping his own link information current and that's it. If a link moves or goes down, the webring is smart enough to know this and passes the user along to another site in the webring. It doesn't get any easier!
What's the cost? What are the requirements?
There is no cost. Remember, Mountaineers are always free! The requirements are simple as well.
If a person is following the webring, they are looking for additional information. The webring is giving them the links they need. If they stop off at member sites that contain "no content", just simply links to sites in the ring, they will soon become frustrated and break out of the webring because of the redundancy. Ideally, we would like to have them stick around and make a complete trip around the ring.
The final requirement is to place the graphics and code on your webpage and keep them there while you are a member of the ring. The code and graphics will be provided to you when you sign up. Simply cut and paste the code into your webpage and then upload it and the graphics to your server.
Mountaineer Pride
If your page is lacking a little on "content" yet you would like your visitors to have the ability to surf the WVU Mountaineers Webring, we have something for you as well called Mountaineer Pride.
